Chris, I definitely feel you on that one. I felt the same way after graduation, especially after my promotion to a corporate systems analyst. What I have gained from it though is that it really isn't the degree that prepares you for what is ahead of you - it is your mindset, willingness to focus on what is going on around you, and how you will react to better the situation. It's sort of fight or flight, to play on one of our old general education courses ;)

Hey there, nice site you have here!

I graduated with a business degree in 2001 and haven't really used it since. I didn't really like my course and taking business led to a major decision - I don't even want to work selling widgets or things to people that they don't need.

I guess I'm an entrepreneur and you could say that that's related to my degree but I really don't remember anything I learned in school. Plus I think if you're an entrepreneur, doing is more important than studying how to do.

Thinking back, I should have gone to art school and developed an actual skill. I'm happy I have a university degree but wish I would have spent all that time and money doing something I was more passionate about.

After graduating with a Speech Communication degree with minors in Management and History, I finally came to the realization that my major mattered far less than what I gained from school.

The Speech Communication classes molded me into who I am today. The tests, concepts, definitions and more that made up the classes did not last long past each exam, but the life lessons from the experience and the people are forever.

Don't worry about your degree as much as who you are. I know that sounds ridiculous and uber-clieche, but the degree is really just a tag to get you in a door. It's you that makes up the rest.

With my speech comm. degree I've held several Technology Related jobs. Plus, it's always fun to explain to interviewers how public speaking makes me good at web designer. :-)

Sure as heck did choose the right major! Computer Science rocked for me and not only did I enjoy it, but I have worked at jobs I've enjoyed, used and expanded on my education, used my knowledge, skills and experience to support local nonprofits, and have made quite a comfortable living at the same time. I don't believe it gets any better than this.
