Now that you’ve got the offer you want to promote, perhaps something in the dating arena, it’s time to move forward with setting up campaigns within the different advertising arenas, analyzing your stats, and testing keywords.

I’m just going to use the topic of dating offers as an example, but the tips I’ll give obviously apply to any niche or offer you pick.

Getting traffic to your offer

You can’t make money without traffic. So, getting people to see your ad, click on your links, submit their info, or even purchase something is the most important part of all of this. Deciding on where you want to get that traffic from is the tough part. There are so many options – Google AdWords, Microsoft AdCenter, Facebook, Twitter, and many more. For this example, we’ll stick with AdWords and AdCenter since they are pretty similar. Sign up for both of them as you’ll want to diversify and test which platform works better for you. Most affiliate marketers seem to believe that AdCenter converts better, but it takes longer for a campaign to ramp up and receive traffic, where with AdWords you may see impressions and clicks more quickly, but not necessarily any conversions. Test them both and keep working with them.

Within each of the sites, you’ll be able to set up different campaigns. I like to to test different keywords, so if we are dealing with a Dating offer, then I may set up the overall campaign with the offer name. Then within the campaign you can set up your different ad groups. These are the ads that will be displayed and the keywords that they would show for. I set up different ad groups based on different groups of keywords. To get off the dating example for a second, a better one to understand this might be if you were promoting an affiliate link for a discount printer ink website. You could have Ad Groups for each different printer type or manufacturer (Epson, HP, etc) and then have all your keywords relating to that manufacturer or group. This way you can see which keywords are performing the best within different ad groups. I think that explanation makes sense, if not leave a comment and I’ll try to help explain some more!

Once you’ve got your Ads and ad groups set up, set your budget for spending and let it go.

Finding Keywords

Doing keyword research is probably the most time consuming part of this process. There are so many tools out there and different websites you can use. Ian Fernando just posted a video about the Google Wonder Wheel which is an excellent tool to use and gain ideas from. Within Google AdWords and Microsoft AdCenter there are also keyword research tools which are pretty helpful in giving you ideas. You can just put in your main keyword and it will spit out tons of related terms and even show you the search volume for them. I’ll post more in the future about keyword research as I get more into it. Right now, I don’t really have any set method or system that I use besides the research tools within AdWords and AdCenter.

Testing, Testing, Testing

The biggest part to making this venture successful besides effective keyword research is continually testing every aspect of your ad and campaign. You always want to be changing your keywords (removing some and adding others) to see what works, changing the text or copy of your ad, and also your ad headlines. Another tip is to make as many ads as you can! There’s nothing stopping you from creating hundreds of different ads and seeing what performs the best – this is what some of the big guys do…all day. Just changing a word or two can make a big difference.

Along with testing, you want to keep checking your stats to see what keywords bringing impressions, and more importantly, are getting clicked. Also, be ready to drop some money to see some rewards. I’ve probably spent about $200 to make the $60 that I did. So there is definitely a big learning curve involved, but you could stumble on a great niche or ad that converts great and makes all that money back for you right away!

Now, here’s a great way to make money from twitter. I’m sure you guys have read about or seen the different eBooks and courses about Twitter Marketing and making money from twitter, so you can add this one to that pile but making money from Twitter just became easier than those others.

Izea, the company behind PayPerPost and Social Spark, have launched Sponsored Tweets – another Ted Murphy idea!

SponsoredTweets is similar to the other services Izea has in which you sign up as a “tweeter” and give SponsoredTweets access to your Twitter account through the API. Then as offers come in through their service that meet your criteria, you get notified by either a DM on Twitter or email and you can accept or deny them. Finally, you post the tweet to your account you get paid.

There are two ways to make money from Twitter when using Sponsored Tweets.

Charge Per Tweet – this is the amount that you want to earn for each tweet you send out. As an example, when I signed up for the service, my “CPT” was recommended at $3.33. You can obviously change this yourself or just let it roll. The starting rate is based on your Twitter account – number of followers, etc. Some people are reporting great pay outs from sponsors such as Shoemoney who reported $250 for posting a tweet about K-Mart.

Charge Per Click – this is the minimum you want to be paid when you being paid per click. Again, when I signed up, this was automatically set at $0.13 for each click. I’m going to leave it here to see how it goes.

Two types of offers

When you sign up, you have a choice to make about the types of offers you get – you either have the ability to edit or write the tweet/ad that you post to your account or you just have to post what the advertiser provides. But, the best part is that you can select to have either type of tweets, so you’re making your chances better.

Minimum payout is $50.00, which seems pretty high when similar services offer a payout of $20.00.

Anyway, I’ve signed up for the service and will report back how it goes. I suggest checking it out if you are into Twitter and social media, as well as if you have a pretty good following because you can quickly make some decent money from Twitter with little effort!

Click the bird to make it happen!

If you are not keeping up with me on Twitter, please follow me as this is the most up to date way to follow me!

Now, here are a couple quick updates with more to follow on them shortly.

First and most importantly, Courtney and I have moved. We moved into our first townhouse together and things have been nuts for the last week unpacking, hanging pictures, setting stuff up, etc. A full video tour, pictures and more to come soon. This has taken a large chunk of my time and has not let me do as much blogging as I would have liked.

This is my busy week at work – with the position I am currently in at work, this week (the first full week of the month) is the most busy as we work to close out the previous month and prepare a lot of different financial reports. Since I usually do most of my blog post writting while at my cubicle job, I haven’t had the time to do so. This will all change again next week when things slow down a little.

eBay sales have gone crazy! I had someone contact me through my HowardCountyeBay.com website about selling a lot of paintball and similar military gear for them on eBay. Over the last week we’ve sold about $500 worth of items with much more to still go, inclduing multiple paintball and airsoft guns. Taking pictures, writing descriptions and doing everything else related to auctions is time consuming. I hope to move most of the inventory within the next couple weeks. I guess that all told it should bring in over $1000 for the owner. If that sounds sweet to you, contact me and find out how you can clean out your closets and basements to make money!

And that’s about it. I’ve been getting up early, around 5:30 AM, to get ready and head to work since we moved further out west away from my job so it’s about that time to go to bed! Leave a comment and follow me on twitter to keep up and chat!

Oh, and last but not least, if you missed the $47 rate for 3DayMoney, it’s currently going for $67 rather than the full price of $97. Now is the time to buy it if you can. Read my post here at about the 3DayMoney program from David Risley.

Twitter. You know what it is right? You’re familiar with tweeting? I hope so…..if you’re not then you must be an advanced 4 year old who can navigate the internet but not type. If you are not on Twitter, you need to go and sign up for an account now.

Anyway, now that that is out of the way, you need to realize how powerful of a tool Twitter really is. With the chance to micro-blog, Twitter gives you the ability to quickly connect with your customers, interact with them, and seek out advice or comments. Not to mention all the networking that can come from it, the business relationships that you can build, and the fun you can have.

Twitter Is Instant Market Research

No matter what your product or service is, you can find someone out of 4+ million plus registered users on Twitter that would use it or have an opinion on it. Inviting people to try out your website and provide feedback is a great way to get first hand knowledge about your site. Sending free samples of your products to people you meet on Twitter is a great way to build buzz about your business as well as develop future customers. Ask a question on Twitter and you’ll get an answer. Find people with similar interests and use them as a research base. Whether you’re looking for someone to give feedback on your website, try a product, or just take a poll, Twitter is the perfect atmosphere to do it in and get the instant responses you need. This one alone could save you and your business hundreds, thousands, or even hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Twitter Knows No Boundaries

One of the best things about Twitter is that it is on all the time, all day long everyday. So, no matter what you are doing or what time it is, Twitter is available and so are your friends/followers. There are so many applications that let you tweet from your phone, that you can always just be a couple clicks away from getting a response. In many cases, I have asked questions on Twitter via my Blackberry or before going to sleep and by the time I get to chance my responses a few hours later or the next morning, there are answers to what I was asking about. The chance to get such a variety of opinions and responses is something that every business person and entrepreneur needs to be utilizing.

Twitter Offers Business Opportunities

Twitteriffic, Splitweet, TwitAds, TwitterBerry, TweetDeck, TwitTip, the list continues. All these sites and services were developed off of Twitter. The opportunities that Twitter has opened up for entrepreneurs is incredibly vast and what is already out there is just the tip of the iceberg.

Social Media is the New Jesus

As students and entrepreneurs, I am sure that you are all on Facebook. By the way, connect with me via the Dorm Room Biz fan page. Anyway, you are also familiar with using social media sites besides Facebook like MySpace, YouTube, Digg, and more. So why are you not utilizing Twitter in the same manner? Whether you are using social media websites to connect with old friends, find clients, grow your business, or just have some fun, you need to add Twitter to the mix.

The Big Guys Are Using It

If for no other reason, you should be on Twitter because many of the major corporations in the world are using the service. Your location and industry does not matter. Everyone from Fox News, CNN, The New York Times, Zappos, Amazon, Northrop Grumman, Comcast, and so many more. Plus, it does not stop at just companies, many of the largest celebrities in the world are on Twitter including Barak Obama, Shaq, MC Hammer, Brittney Spears, and many more. Following some of these people and reading their tweets are interesting and fun.

Now, explain to me why you’re not on Twitter? If you ARE on Twitter, leave a link to your profile within the comments so everyone can follow each other.

You can follow me at @ChrisPund. If you’re interested in outdoor news, gear reviews, and my other website, TheGearHouse, then you can also follow me there @TheGearHouse.

So, here’s the deal. If you’ve been following me on Twitter the last couple weeks, you may have seen some tweets about this.

I’ve been bored at work, I mean really bored, and my manager knows it. So, a little more than a week ago she told me about an opportunity to go to a site we have outside of Orlando, FL for 4-6 weeks and asked if I wanted to go. I ofcourse was shocked by the offer and wanted to think it over and talk it over. So after finding out some more details this past Wednesday, I decided that I’d be accepting the offer. So, now, as you’re reading this, I’m either at the airport, in the air, or maybe have already landed in Orlando depending on what time you are reading this.

The travel plans were booked on Thursday and I’m off to Florida for 2 weeks, will be home in Maryland for 4 days, and then back down for another 3-4 weeks. I’m overly excited about it. The chance to take the trip, see a different part of the company, and sort of have a vacation was one that I could not turn down….besides, everything is paid for and I won’t have to spend a dime (except on booze of course).

So, I want to meet you. Any and all readers of Dorm Room Biz that live in the Orlando area, I want to try to meet up, have a tweetup, or just grab a beer. I’ll actually be staying in the Maitland area but could of course meet anywhere in that area.

If you’re around and would like to try to meet, leave a comment or send me an email or a direct message on Twitter.

I’ll be blogging and making videos while there and will probably be writing more while I’m there than I have been just because I won’t have much else to do! Look forward to some good content coming from that!

Have a great 4 weeks everone, I know I’ll be enjoying the 70+ degree weather!

For me, this includes having a few different websites that I run and am constantly working on and updating. One thing I want to continue to take advantage of in 2009 is the power of Twitter and really harness it.

With that being said, a couple weeks back, I put out a tweet seeing what people thought about keeping all your tweets to one account or if you should split your tweeting into different accounts. The responses were mixed, but I decided I wanted to keep some followers separate and they did not need to get my everyday mundane tweets, so I created a new account for my website and business, TheGearHouse. 2009 is going to be a huge year for TheGearHouse so I figured it was a good idea.

However, once I had two Twitter accounts, I had no idea how I was going to manage both of them and update each. I went looking for a single interface to do so, preferably a desktop application that I could run separetly from my browser. I know many people use services like TweetDeck and Twhirl, so I check them out but both were a no go. At least from my quick check, you can not run two accounts at the same time through them. If I am wrong, please let me know so that I can test them.

So, when I was searching Google, I came across Splitweet. Splitweet was the answer that I was looking for…sort of. Splitweet is a browser based interface that allows you to be logged into as many Twitter accounts as you would like and then tweet out to the different ones that you want by just checking a box next to the account you want to send from.

Splitweet works great as you can tweet from multiple accounts, set up ‘brand’ mentions that allow you to find people mentioning keywords in their tweets, and also easily see when someone replies to you. I’d definitely recommend you checking out Spiltweet if you are trying to manage multiple or different Twitter accounts like I needed to.

The one down side I have found so far, besides not being a desktop application, is that you have to remember which account you are currently logged in to on Twitter.com. If you go to follow someone it will follow that person through whichever account you are currently logged into. So if someone follows me on my account for TheGearHouse, and I follow back, I may have followed them through @chrispund rather than @thegearhouse. The quickest way to tell which account you are logged into it to roll your mouse over the ‘Profile’ link when you are looking at someone elses profile. Look at where the link is pointing to and you will see if the address is either http://www.twitter.com/chrispund or http://www.twitter.com/thegearhouse.

Are you on Twitter? Then why are you not following me? Follow me @chrispund or @thegearhouse.
