Google AdSense Updates

I woke up to an email today from the Google AdSense Team which outlind some of the updates that are going to be happening to the program.

1. Referrals – both new and improved

Google AdWords referrals: We have added Google AdWords to the growing list of products which you can refer to your users using the AdSense referrals feature. Add an AdWords referral button to your site and inform your users about the value of advertising on Google and our network of partner sites. You will earn $20 when an advertiser you refer spends $100 on advertising within 90 days

2. New year, new look

Creating and customising your AdSense ad code is now simpler than ever with the new AdSense Setup tab. Pick a product and we will guide you through the process of generating the ad code with the format, colours and channel of your choice, along with any other specifications you would like. By consolidating your AdSense for content, AdSense for search and Referrals tabs into just one AdSense Setup tab, you can enjoy the streamlined ad setup and discover new features all in one place.

3. Greater reporting detail

If you have wondered whether advertisers were choosing to target their ads to your specific site, this new reporting feature is great news for you. We have updated our reports to provide separate details for site-targeted and contextually targeted ads. To see what types of ads are showing on your site, visit your Advanced Reports page. From there, choose AdSense for content as the product, show data by ‘Individual Ad Unit’ and click the checkbox marked Show data by targeting type – contextual or site. When you generate your report, you will see a new column for Targeting Type.

4. Educate yourself

The AdSense Help Centre is now host to a new channel guide that will be especially helpful for those of you who are unfamiliar with the enhanced tracking abilities provided with channels, as well as those looking for more tips on better using them. Optimising with Channels highlights the differences between URL channels and custom channels, walks you step-by-step through the process of creating channels and provides tips and examples for using each type of channel. It offers the assistance you need to start optimising your site today.

It sure looks like a lot of great stuff going on!
