Running a startup, a small business, or any other form of for-profit operation requires no small amount of complex thinking and visionary thinking. As the lead creative, manager, executive, and motivating force, sometimes it can feel a little intense dealing with all of this responsibility, while also having to cope with the various unpredictable issues that can jump out at us.

Saving yourself hassle as a business owner, then, is just good sense. If it helps free up our time and mental health in a positive direction, it’s likely a good idea. That being said, as a small business owner, it’s unlikely that you’ll hire a team of assistants and a great network of employees to lighten your load. The time to act smug and smoke cigars in your office isn’t quite here.

That doesn’t mean you can’t save yourself hassle. But figuring out what that means to you, what kinds of hassle you hope to save, and how to still stay abreast of all affairs within your operation is important. Let’s consider what that might mean, with some of the following advice:

Establishing Appropriate IT

It’s quite refreshing when you have excellent, reliable IT systems supporting your every actions as a business and manager. You can read more about this here, as the benefits are quite important to understand before moving forward. From caring for your cloud systems, to functional storage, to ensuring cybersecurity and more, establishing appropriate IT measures means caring for and adopting the best possible framework going forward. This frees up your logistical planning, communication, security and documentation responsibilities, and instead lets you focus on the practicality of your vision and how to enforce it.

Delegating Authority

Delegating authority is also an important use of your time. If you have an assistant, or staff members, or even partners to support you, make sure they are given their fair share of work. Explain to them why this is important. If you have staff, don’t do everything yourself. This sounds obvious, but you’d be surprised just how many leaders waste time trying to complete every single job instead of empowering their staff to make the right decisions. Delegating authority correctly could free up half of your schedule.

Daily Market Digests

It’s important to keep abreast of the latest news and developments in your industry, as no business is an island. Daily market digests, such as from broadsheet offerings or critics you trust delivered right to your email inbox, can help you keep on top of things and also understand how to progress, what opinions you may wish to keep, and from there, how to deliver your best strategy going forward. Businesses should always be dynamic, reactive, and willing to use the context of the market to propel their action. This helps you avoid catching up, which ultimately, ensures you save time and hassle.

With this advice, we hope you can more easily save hassle as a business owner.
