Why Do I Start Multiple Websites and Diversify My Income Sources?

That is a very good question. Lately I have been asked that same question a lot and also been wondering why I keep doing it myself. Right now, I have 6 fully launched and working websites. On top of that, I have 4 that have been in the workings for anywhere between 2 months to over a bout a year. Out of the 4 that I have been slowly working on, 2 of them will hopefully launch soon.

My functioning sites include:

Now, for the sites that I am working on developing…slowly buy surely over time:

  • The Gear House
  • The Banner Kings
  • Guide To OBX
  • Entrepreneurs Speak

So, why so many websites you may ask?

I like to think that the answer is simple, I like to build them, I like to update them (when I have a chance), and they can make me some money.

Diversify Your Income Streams
Having many different sources of income coming in is always a good idea. I don’t care if you are making $2 a day from AdSense on your sites, having multiple sites earning $2 a day can quickly add up. If you have the time and ability to develop some different websites, especially content rich sites that do not need a whole lot of maintenance, then you should definitely diversify your internet property holdings. I know first hand that it is hard to stay on top of managing and updating a bunch of different websites on different topics, so here are a couple different tips to help you with doing so.

Tips for Maintaining and Updating Your Websites

  1. Set aside time for each of your websites
I am finding this easier and easier to do now that I have a laptop and can easily work while on the move, such as in between classes while on campus or while I have a messed up foot and am laying in bed resting. If you know that you are going to be having constant breaks between your classes, whether it is 10 minutes or an hour, and have access to a computer, set a day where all you do during that break is update your websites or add content to them. This will really help you build your sites and continually keep the content fresh. This is the strategy that I am going to start taking. As I have get my other sites completed and launched, I will be able to fully focus on the content of them.
  2. Monetize Your Sites
I don’t care how you do it, just do it. If you like just sticking up some AdSense code on your sites and letting them sit or if you want to try to sell advertising yourself, just do it. The main purpose of having multiple websites for me is to work on building a network of websites that are constantly creating income for me. Example: When I launched TheRavenSymone.com, I added AdSense to it and the site started getting some decent traffic and lots of clicks on the ads. I started to make pretty good money from the site (peak was about $5 a day). I have not updated the website since I launched it over 6 months ago, yet I still see good traffic coming to the site and a good number of clicks, which translates into cash. Now, the money might only be a dollar or so a day, but for just that site, thats not bad. Some ways to monetize your website include: Text Link Ads, Google AdSense, Auction Ads, and private advertising. If you are willing to publish paid reviews on your website, depending on your content, then check out ReviewMe and SponsoredReviews.
  3. Find Guest Bloggers/Partners
If you do not think that you will have enough time during your scheduled to continually update your websites, then try to find some partners or guest bloggers that would be interested in helping you with your site and the content. I have found having a guest blogger can be a great experience and help, as well as can give you a break. Having that free time from one blog or website can free up the time for you to start working on another or dedicating more of your time to another site to help it grow.
  4. Build to Sell
If you are interested in making some good money in a short period of time, try building a site that you can flip pretty easily. If you can find the right niche, spend 4-6 months building the website, getting content on it, and monetizing it. When someone goes to buy a website, they are going to mostly be looking at the number of visitors/hits and the revenue that the website has been bringing it to see if the investment is worth it. If you can build a site up enough to have your site brining in a decent revenue each month, steady numbers of visitors/hits, and continue to grow it, you should be able to sell your site for a good profit. Just make sure you find the right niche.

There are some tips to help you get going. These are things that have worked for me and may not work for you, but they are a foundation for getting you started and successfully growing your site. I know there are many more ways to manage your time and effectively build your sites, so please feel free to share what works for you!

I see a problem though when you come to own about 10 or more websites. I have about 50 websites now and I don´t earn more. The problem, if you use adsense, is that as you add websites to the same adsense account you will get less money / click… I don´t know if this is actually correct but this is my experience. I earn now less per day than I did with 5 websites one year ago.
