Building relationships with your employees is going to be essential to helping your small business see success. Do you have any idea how many employers don’t bother to bond with their employees, and are perfectly happy to just treat them as though they are irrelevant? This is ridiculous seeing as they are most certainly not, and you should be putting in the effort when it comes to building these relationships. Keep reading if you are interested in finding out more about how you can do this.

Team Building Exercises

Team building exercises are a fantastic way to build relationships with your employees, and ensure that they are building relationships with each other. You can organize these to take place once per month, or however often you think that they are necessary. The important thing is that you are bonding, making it easier to work together. The better your team and you get on, the better your business is going to operate.

Team building exercises do not have to take up the entire day if you don’t want them to. It can be a half day activity to just ensure that everyone is on the same page. Things like trust falls are common, as well as problem solving activities. Whatever it is that you decide you want to do, the goal should always be to work on the relationship that you have with your employees.

Bond With Them Outside Of Work

Something else you can do when it comes to building relationships and rapport with your employees is see them outside of work. This could be anything from Christmas drinks to someone’s birthday. Arranging time away from work shows employees that you are more than just a boss to them. Get a list of everyone’s birthdays and then you can arrange birthday parties for them when the time comes. Get to know your staff members and find out what they like and don’t like.

Have An Open Door Policy

Another thing you might want to do in the office is have an open door policy. This means your employees can come and go from your office whenever they need you. This could be an issue with another staff member or a difficulty with the workload.

Reward Them

Finally, if you are wanting to keep your employees happy and as part of your team then you must make them feel valued. If employees don’t like how you make them feel then they won’t stay with you very long. This could result in a high employee churn rate that costs you and your business not only time but money as well. Think about a reward system that you can offer your employees. You might want to have employee of the month for instance and the winner gets a day off of their choosing. If employees have something to work towards then they are far more likely to get tasks and projects completed.
