Take It With Humor

Some say that the sense of humor is the oil of life’s engine.

In all honesty, while it can be difficult to talk for the whole of life – it’s sort of a vast topic, to be frank about it – there’s a certain form of positive correlation between humor and business life. In fact, if you know how to laugh and how to make other people laugh, you’re pretty much assured to go through your career with considerably fewer obstacles and troubles than people who take things too seriously. Indeed, here are the four key areas in which laughing can genuinely save the day!

#1. Let fun games bring people together

What are teams? On paper, teams are co-workers who work in the same department. In reality, teams are essential to the success of your business, as they enable transparent knowledge sharing, creativity and effective problem-solving. The main problem with teams is that they seem to be one of those abstract concepts that are impossible to recreate in real life. That’s precisely why team building activities are so important. Built around fun and playful processes – such as a treasure hunt with a ceremony for team awards at the end – team building exercises bring employees together. Playfulness takes the stress out of it, without destroying the sense of competitiveness.

#2. Let them talk

When you’re a young entrepreneur, you can expect people to be suspicious of your skills. They may not believe that you should manage employees who are older than you or that you are experienced enough to run a business. The business world is highly competitive, so it’s fair to say that newcomers need to brace themselves for critics. Don’t take it personally. Instead, smile and laugh it off while you can focus on what really matters, namely on making a success out of your startup idea.

#3. Let it defuse conflicts

Conflicts are not uncommon in the workplace. Whether people are over-tired, stressed out or simply when some employees don’t get on together, conflict occurs. Your responsibility is not to promote peace, as the conflict is part of an effective structure. It’s only when people disagree that they can innovate. But ultimately, because able to defuse the tension with a joke or with unexpected fun can be useful. Some managers deal with conflict situations by suggested a silly dance, the reason for it is that it immediately releases tensions and helps people to focus their ideas, for example.

#4. To make your customers laugh

Humor doesn’t need to be used internally only. You can use humor to reach out to your customers. Admittedly making your customer laugh doesn’t lead to purchase, but it can certainly increase your chances as the customer will now be thinking more about your brand. However, you need to be careful to maintain the integrity of your product as well. Humor should not be discriminatory or offensive. But it can certainly be amusing, light-hearted and unexpectedly fun for customers! The key to success here is to work with a customer profiling analysis.

Laughing is not only healthy, but it can also be profitable for your business. From bringing your team together to attracting new customers, humor is part of your business success recipe!
