The Daily Grind Of Micro Businesses

Starting up a business in your dorm room or garage is hardly a new idea, but it’s got some new challenges to face in the modern era of doing business. Even if you’re small it doesn’t mean you should act or think small. In fact as many people who have had to struggle to succeed will tell you, you must think that you’re bigger than what you are. At the very least you must use this mentality and way of perceiving yourself to think as if you’re better than your rivals who are in the same position as you. The reason for this isn’t because arrogance and ignorance are promoted, but rather it allows you to see yourself in a light that symbolizes your end goal. A micro business needs to have this kind of view and narrative running through it’s core because you are so small that you may often think that you’re insignificant and that your business doesn’t matter. That is a surefire way of being trampled on and forgotten about. As the old saying goes, ‘if you don’t care about what you do, why should anyone else?’ The daily grind of being bigger than you are is something you should realize first.

You are not where you are

When other businesses and clients to contact you in the real world, for the love of all things good and proper don’t give them your home address. This is not going to be a good look. A client that is potentially giving you tens of thousands of dollars worth of business, does not want to send their contract to someone’s personal house or dorm room. You must behave like a real business and give them your business address. For this you can use services such as mail forwarding. The companies that offer these services will be situated in a commercial office. They will accept and forward the mail to you that you receive. This can be via photocopying and sending you documents via email, or it can also be physically mailing out the post to you. They have other services such as call forwarding also which you may want too.

Organized and proud

Going to a business conference or some kind of public event where your business will be attending and showcasing it’s products or services, your employees should look the part. You are a micro business, but that is no excuse to look like one. Don’t go to business even in jeans and hoodies no matter what the vibe of the younger generation is. You need to look organized and have a sense of pride and belief in your business. A custom lanyard around the necks of all your employees does this in a subtle way. You can design your own at customlanyardscanada.com so it’s wise to make them in the image of your brand. Have the same color scheme and logos of your business. Those that wear them will look more professional and part of a team that is ready to be recognized by bigger fish in your respective industry.

Unlike a small business a micro business can be a little too sporadic and disorganized. This can lead to fragments in public image, which is why when going to business events your employees should wear something similar that projects your intended image instead.
